以下产品用于研究当关键结构元件改变时对寡核苷酸活性的影响。7-脱氮嘌呤单体缺乏对氢键合至关重要的基团。7-Deaza-8-aza-A和7-deaza-8-aza-G（PPG）单体是A和G的异构体，并且具有相似的电子密度。它们在寡核苷酸中的存在相对于A和G略微稳定。与G不同，PPG不会导致聚集，并且可以容易地制备和分离富含G的寡核苷酸。在5'-末端具有PPG的5'-荧光素寡核苷酸比等同的G寡核苷酸淬灭得少得多。作为胸苷的嘌呤类似物，7-脱氮-2'-脱氧黄嘌呤核苷（7-deaza-dX）有望对三链体的DNA结构产生有趣的影响。7-Deaza-dX还与2,4-二氨基嘧啶核苷类似物形成非标准碱基对。标准核碱基具有未共享的电子对，其突出到双链DNA的小沟中。与DNA，聚合酶，逆转录酶，限制酶等相互作用的酶可以使用氢键供体基团与小沟中的氢键受体接触。3-Deaza-2'-deoxyadenosine非常有趣，因为它保持了常规Watson-Crick氢与T键合的能力，但缺乏通常由N3提供的3-位的电子对。
